Investor's guide / History and tradition of the region / Region
Mielec is the district Town on the Wisloka River 60 km from Rzeszow, and 30 km from  east-west A4 highway. Mielec is the fourth biggest town in podkarpackie voivodeship (65 000) as far as the population is concerned. Since the middle of the nineteenth century Mielec has become the social and economical center.

The turning point in the town history was year 1937 when the Aviation Enterprise was founded which was accompanied with the construction of an airfield, the investments were part of a central industrialization program of the region.  In 1939 the first bomber planes “ŁOŚ” (“MOOSE”) were assembled within the new manufacturing plant in Mielec which at that time was a top achievement in military aviation technology.

The development of the aviation industry created new prospective for the region and stimulated the economy and social development.

In 1952 The Aviation Enterprise was called The Factory of Transportation Equipment (WSK)  which introduced the diversification into the automotive industry where vehicles, Leyland licensed diesel engines, fuel injection pumps and electric vehicles (MELEX) were manufactured.

During the next decades the town impressively developed as a result of  WSK Mielec development. In the eighties the first symptoms of economic depression appeared and the beginning of transformation in 1989 disclosed all weaknesses in the central management  which managed the total plant including the vireos products and technologies.

The response to the negative impact coming form the restructuring of the plant was the idea of creating the Special Economic Zone within the former WSK and in adjacent areas for new development. The zone was established in 1995 as the first Special Economic Zone in Poland and was called SEZ EURO-PARK MIELEC.
